In 2025, ConCuerpos embarks on an international creative venture, uniting artistic talents from Colombia and the Netherlands to transcend boundaries and champion inclusion and accessibility. This ambitious initiative begins with an invitation from the esteemed Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá for a co-production.
This new project will bring both casts together in Bogotá for three weeks of intensive creative exchange, where dancers, choreographers, and collaborators will explore the intersection of dance, accessibility, and innovation. Led by two outstanding choreographers—Diana León (Colombia) and Laisvie Ochoa (Netherlands)—the process will integrate Sign Language, audio description, and creative subtitles, transforming accessibility tools into expressive elements within the performance. The artistic research will focus on how these elements not only enhance inclusivity but also expand the choreographic and dramaturgical possibilities of dance.
To ensure maximum exposure and impact following its premiere in Colombia, we propose an innovative and adaptable strategy. The work will be structured in a modular format, allowing for presentations with the full international cast or as individual segments in each participating country. This approach offers the opportunity to explore the same theme from unique perspectives, under the direction of León and Ochoa. Each morning, the entire international team will come together for a creative laboratory, while afternoons will be dedicated to working on their respective sections. Throughout this process, the dramaturg will facilitate a constant exchange of ideas and feedback, fostering mutual enrichment and creative cohesion.
For its grand premiere at Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, the entire cast will perform together, offering the audience an unforgettable experience. Beyond Colombia, we plan to bring the production to stages in the Netherlands and Spain in 2026. Additionally, each part of the production can be performed separately in the respective countries, ensuring that our message of inclusion and creativity reaches international audiences in diverse ways.
Building on the success of our 2021 collaboration with Teatro Mayor—which led to the impactful work IRA—this project represents a new step in our mission to merge accessibility and contemporary dance. Over eight months of dedicated effort, IRA—directed by three talented female choreographers—became a production of exceptional quality and powerful artistic narrative. Beyond the performance itself, the project resulted in a documentary capturing the entire creative process. Both the production and the documentary have since toured internationally, from Scotland to China, spreading our message of inclusion and creativity worldwide.
With this 2025 co-production, ConCuerpos continues to push artistic boundaries, proving that accessibility is not just an accommodation but a powerful creative force that enriches dance and deepens human connection.
