ABOUT THE WORK

An inclusive and accessible dance work about absence, disappearance, and memory.

This work is part of an ongoing artistic exploration into the concept of Universal Accessibility within the realm of dance. By artistically integrating audio description and Sign Language, it aims to empower individuals with visual and hearing impairments to fully engage as audience members. This particular piece focuses on experimenting with sound and creative audio description, resulting in a presentation akin to a songbook. Each of the four scenes, or “songs,” offers a distinct approach to sonifying movement.

The thematic core of the work revolves around the notion of absence, a poignant facet of Colombian emotional identity shaped by the enduring internal conflict. Co-directed by two choreographers from ConCuerpos, the piece delves into this theme through a dual lens. Diana León’s contributions delve into the deeply personal and intimate resonances of absence within the dancers’ individual subjectivities. Meanwhile, Laisvie Andrea Ochoa tackles the topic from a collective perspective, drawing connections to the stories of those affected by the longstanding armed conflict in Colombia—a stark reality that persists within our nation’s fabric. These explorations unfolded collaboratively, involving both sound composers and the company’s dancer-researchers in a synergistic creative process.
